Sinopsis

Durante las vacaciones de verano, un documentalista y su hijo de 12 años se alojan en un hotel abandonado en Lisboa, un espacio vacío que evoca el inquietante escenario de El resplandor.

During the summer vacations, a documentary filmmaker and his 12-year-old son stay in an abandoned hotel in Lisbon, an empty hotel that evokes the disturbing setting from The Shining.

(1970, Brasil). Estudió periodismo en San Pablo y cine en Nueva York. Dirigió los largos documentales La Esteticién (2004) y Goodbye, America (2006), el corto Apuntes sobre el otro (2009) y el mediometraje A Story for the Modlins (Bafici ‘13). Vive en Madrid, donde dirige la productora Dok Films y da clases en la ECAM.

He directed the documentary films La Esteticién (2004) and Goodbye, America (2006), as well as the short film Notes on the Other (2009) and mid-length A Story for the Modlins (Bafici ‘13). He lives in Madrid, where he is the head of the production company Dok Films and teaches at ECAM.

Una película de miedo no es —estrictamente— una película de miedo. Es más bien un ejercicio sobre la paternidad. Una reflexión donde el temor funciona más como tara del inconsciente que como una simple reacción nerviosa. Acá, un padre y su hijo viajan a Lisboa para cuidar un hotel crepuscular y vacío que evoca, inevitablemente, a El resplandor. El hotel, una posada que supo tener su brillo y hoy es puro pasado, será detonado en breve. Pero lo importante ocurre ahora, cuando el fantasma del paso del tiempo anda al acecho entre el silencio y el aplomo. Por ahí, de tanto rascar, brota lo evidente: es imposible escaparles a los genes. Una película de miedo nos asoma a la intimidad del último verano de inocencia, ese borde difuso donde la infancia empieza a despedirse. Hernán Panessi

A Scary Movie is not—strictly speaking—a scary movie. It is more of an exercise in fatherhood. A reflection where fear functions more as a flaw of the unconscious than as a simple nervous reaction. Here, a father and his son travel to Lisbon to take care of a crepuscular, empty hotel that inevitably evokes The Shining. The hotel, an inn that once had its glory days and is now pure history, will soon be demolished. But the important stuff happens now, when the ghost of the passing of time lurks between silence and composure. There, after much scratching, the obvious emerges: it is impossible to escape one's genes. A Scary Movie gives us a glimpse into the intimacy of the last summer of innocence, that blurred edge where childhood begins to say goodbye. HP
