Sinopsis

Lena, de 20 años, vive en Atenas con su familia y trabaja en un supermercado. Cansada de la precariedad del hogar, sueña con independizarse. Pero la despiden y descubre que está embarazada. ¿Y si conservar el embarazo fuera la única forma de recuperar su trabajo?

Lena is a 20 year old girl who lives in Athens with her family and works at a local supermarket. Tired of the instability of her living situation, she dreams of becoming independent. But she gets fired from her job and finds out that she is pregnant. What if keeping her baby is the only way to keep her job?

(1979, Atenas). Vive y trabaja en Atenas, en el área de comunicación en la industria editorial. Estudió Comunicación y Medios, y tiene un máster en Gestión Cultural (Universidad Panteion, Atenas). Desde 2010 escribe guiones, dirigió siete cortos y un documental.

She studied Communication and Mass Media and holds an MA in Cultural Management (Panteion University, Athens). She has been writing scripts and directing short films since 2010, and has completed seven short films and one documentary.

Reseña / Review

El tiempo de la juventud es ese en el que todo parece permitido. Lena está en esta etapa clave, cuando se es vital e inconformista pero ya acecha el futuro con sus rituales de obligaciones y pesadumbre. Cuando se debe bajar la cabeza ante el yugo laboral y el ceremonial de la familia y sus mandatos. La película no se engaña al respecto: la chica podrá mostrarse todo lo libre que quiera, pero no se sabe por cuánto tiempo. La película encapsula esos fragmentos de vida antes de que todo se ordene con la entrada en la edad adulta. El tono pop que impregna cada escena respira al compás de la joven mujer cuya rebeldía no cede pero parece anticipar la caída. La directora evita todo cinismo, sin embargo, y la película contagia la magia insensata de la libertad que no ha sido aún arrebatada. Florencia Gutman

Youth is a time when everything seems possible. Lena is at this crucial stage, when one is full of life and nonconformist, but the future looms with its rituals of obligations and burdens. When one must bow one's head to the yoke of work and the ceremonial obligations of family and its mandates. The film is under no illusions about this: the girl can be as free as she wants, but for how long? The film encapsulates those fragments of life before everything falls into place with the onset of adulthood. The pop tone that permeates each scene breathes in time with the young woman whose rebelliousness does not waver but seems to anticipate the fall. The director avoids any cynicism, however, and the film conveys the senseless magic of freedom that has not yet been taken away. FG
