Sinopsis

Un tipo raro que vive en Francia desde hace 17 años sin hablar francés es una comedia. Un hombre que ronda los 50, no habla el idioma y vive obsesionado con sus papeles es, en cambio, un drama.

A funny guy who has lived in France for 17 years without speaking French is a comedy. A guy going on 50 who cannot speak French and keeps talking about his papers is a drama.

(1971, Túnez). Estudió Historia del Arte, es crítica de cine y documentalista. Dirigió varias películas como L’Art, Porte sans clef y Baleh-Baleh, las cuales pudieron verse en el foco que le dedicó el Bafici en 2022.

En el fondo Bodet hace comedias en las que encuentra a sus personajes no entendiendo nada o luchando para entender. Entre el egipcio sin papeles que no logra mejorar su francés porque está “bloqué” a causa del estrés que le provoca justamente no tenerlos y la buena de Bodet que lo acompaña para ayudarlo a obtenerlos se producen chispazos cómicos de cartel. Hay mucho de la París de los inmigrantes, filmada con bellos planos, en un recorrido en que la directora ocupa un segundo plano, desde el que trata de orientar a su amigo. Bodet siempre es más inteligente de lo que se muestra; su personaje para la pantalla es el de una inocentona que guía el relato sin que se note. Esa discreción hace florecer todo el humanismo de sus películas, en las que la última palabra la tienen los desheredados que sueñan con conquistar su porción de felicidad. David Obarrio

Essentially, Bodet makes comedies in which her characters either don't understand anything or struggle to understand. Between the undocumented Egyptian who can't improve his French because he is “bloqué” by the stress caused by not having papers, and the kind Bodet who accompanies him to help him obtain them, there are flashes of comic genius. There is a lot of immigrant Paris, filmed with beautiful shots, in a journey in which the director takes a back seat, from which she tries to guide her friend. Bodet is always smarter than she appears; her screen persona is that of a naive woman who guides the story without being noticed. This discretion allows humanism to flourish in her films, in which the last word is given to the disenfranchised who dream of conquering their share of happiness. DO
