Sinopsis

Julián filma a su familia materna, actores de cine y televisión en los años 90, mientras intenta entender qué le ocurrió a su madre, internada en instituciones psiquiátricas desde hace más de 25 años.

Julián films his relatives on his mother's side, film and television actors in the 1990s, while trying to understand what happened to his mother, who's been institutionalized in different psychiatric facilities for more than 25 years.

Julián Tagle toma el más masticado de los géneros, el documental familiar, y de inmediato, con magnetismo y excentricidades dignas del árbol genealógico de los Tenenbaum, ilumina la historia de un apellido que recorre la TV argentina. Ahí están papá Rodolfo Machado, de Rosa de lejos a Celeste; el hermano Juan Ignacio, de Regalo del cielo a Ricos y famosos; y también Pablo. Con inteligencia sentimental, Tagle reconstruye el mapa emocional de los terremotos que definen a los Machado. Los mira con ojos de amor que cuida y los deja ser infernales, terrenales o almuerzo familiar. Lejos del ego, Tagle sabe reír: sabe que sobrevivir es aprender a cuidarse y a cuidar ese infierno encantador —o círculo del averno— que puede ser esa hermosa calamidad llamada familia. Julián Tagle takes on the most overused of genres—the family documentary—and immediately, with a magnetism and eccentricity worthy of the Tenenbaum family tree, sheds light on the history of a last name that runs through Argentine television. There’s Dad, Rodolfo Machado, from Rosa de lejos to Celeste; brother Juan Ignacio, from Regalo del cielo to Ricos y famosos; and Pablo, too. With sentimental intelligence, Tagle reconstructs the emotional map of the upheavals that define the Machados. He looks at them with the loving eyes of a caregiver and lets them be hellish, down-to-earth, or a family lunch. Far from ego, Tagle knows how to laugh: he knows that surviving means learning to take care of oneself and to care for that enchanting hell—or circle of hell—that can be that beautiful calamity called family.
