Sinopsis

Dos jóvenes de clase trabajadora sueñan con triunfar con su banda de cuarteto. Una noche quedan atrapados en un crimen que no cometieron. Sabiendo que su origen los condena de antemano, huyen sin otra opción.

Two working-class young men dream of making it big with their cuarteto band. One night they get caught up in a crime they didn't commit. Knowing that their origin condemns them in advance, they flee with no other option.

(1967, San Juan, Argentina). Licenciado en cine por la UNC, dirigió varios largometrajes, entre ellos, Tres D (Bafici ‘14), Todo el tiempo del mundo (Bafici ‘15), Maturità (Bafici ‘16) y Casa propia (Bafici ‘18).

Reseña / Review

A una década y media de De caravana, Rosendo Ruiz vuelve a la noche y al cuarteto. Pero esta vez hay cambio de género: si De caravana era una aventura nocturna musical, La Zurda es un policial cargado con música y con unas cuantas oscuridades que van más allá de la noche. Eso sí, lo que permanece entre ese comienzo de la carrera de Ruiz y este presente es su energía, su pulso cinematográfico, su vocación por un relato comunicable, su orgullo narrativo. Y, como suele pasar con las películas de los cineastas con esa vocación, las acciones –incluso aquellas planteadas con velocidad– disparan los temas centrales –el poder, la relación entre clases sociales, el sueño del ascenso– sin necesidad de detener el movimiento. A decade and a half after De caravana, Rosendo Ruiz returns to the night and Cuarteto music. But this time there is a change in genre: if De caravana was a nocturnal musical adventure, Lefty is a detective film loaded with music and with a few obscurities that go beyond the night. What remains between that beginning of Ruiz's career and the present is his energy, his steady hand as a filmmaker, his vocation for a communicable story, his narrative pride. And, as it usually happens with the films by filmmakers with that vocation, the actions -even those approached with speed- trigger the central themes -power, social class relations, the dream of rising through the ranks- without the need to stop the movement.
