Sinopsis

Kaintuck, un humilde campesino, vive junto a su madre en un pueblito del sur de Estados Unidos. Al declararse la Guerra Civil, es rechazado por los terratenientes debido a su condición, y se convertirá en un bandido renegado.

Kaintuck, a humble farmer, lives with his mother in a small town in the southern USA. When the Civil War breaks out, he is rejected by the landowners because of his condition and becomes a renegade bandit.

La historia del cine está cimentada por genios y héroes anónimos, y en este pequeño gran apéndice llamado La gota escarlata confluyen ambos. El fuera de serie es John Ford, quien no necesita presentación alguna; el héroe invisible lleva el nombre de Jaime Córdova, un académico y arqueólogo fílmico chileno que hizo caso a una corazonada y encontró un corto perdido de Ford en un modesto almacén de Santiago. El hallazgo es doble: no solo son rollos que se creyeron extraviados durante casi un siglo, sino que es la constatación de que la estética y ética rectoras del cine del maestro ya estaban presentes desde sus primeros encuentros con la cámara. Film history is built on geniuses and unsung heroes, and in this great little appendix called The Scarlet Drop, both converge. The unsung hero is John Ford, who needs no introduction; the unseen hero is Jaime Córdova, a Chilean film scholar and archeologist who followed a hunch and found a lost Ford short film in a modest Santiago warehouse. The discovery is twofold: not only are they reels that were believed to have been lost for almost a century, but it is also the confirmation that the aesthetics and guiding ethics of the master's cinema were already present from his first encounters with the camera.
