Cineasta nacida en Kansas que vive en Nueva York. Su trabajo activa archivos a través de estructuras narrativas queer dentro del ámbito de la no ficción. Entre sus trabajos se encuentran los cortos documentales The Roaming Center for Magnetic Alternatives (2024), The Fault Line (2024) y Love, Barbara (2022).

A Kansas-born, New York-based filmmaker. Her work activates archives through queering storytelling structures within the nonfiction space. Her past work includes the documentary shorts The Roaming Center for Magnetic Alternatives (2024), The Fault Line (2024), and Love, Barbara (2022).

Guerrera espiritual contra todo tabú y pionera de un cine queer lúdico, Hammer fue articulando, en sus más de noventa cortometrajes, instalaciones y performances, una obra colosal con aires de manifiesto: cuerpos femeninos no fetichizados y en contacto amoroso, libres de toda estructura opresiva. Esta elegía intimista, producida por la legendaria Christine Vachon, documenta todas las etapas de su vida aventurera, desde su renacer como lesbiana y realizadora y su apoteosis como artista multimedia, hasta su batalla contra el cáncer, a la cual se entregó con el mismo ojo prodigioso y la misma alegre vulnerabilidad con la que vivió su vida. Many talk about putting their body on the line, but few filmmakers have done so like Barbara Hammer. A spiritual warrior against all taboos and a pioneer of playful queer cinema, Hammer articulated, in her more than ninety short films, installations and performances, a colossal body of work with the air of a manifesto: female bodies that are not fetishized and are in loving contact, free from all oppressive structures. This intimate elegy, produced by the legendary Christine Vachon, documents all the stages of her adventurous life, from her rebirth as a lesbian and filmmaker and her apotheosis as a multimedia artist, to her battle with cancer, which she fought with the same prodigious eye and joyful vulnerability with which she lived her life.
