Sinopsis

Stela, formada pero sin trabajo estable, se obsesiona con un músico balcánico tras verlo en TV y decide conocerlo. Vera, una artista que dice ser su amante, la lleva a Bucarest con la promesa de cambiar su vida, en un choque de mundos marcado por el deseo y la ambición.

Stela, educated but without a steady job, falls in love with a famous Balkan musician after seeing him on TV and decides to meet him. Vera, a starlet-musician who says she’s his mistress, takes her to Bucharest with the promise of changing her life, in a clash of worlds marked by desire and ambition.

Reseña / Review

Para decirlo rápido, se trata probablemente de una de las grandes películas rumanas de los últimos años, como una enmienda a cualquier cosa que haya hecho Jude. Con diálogos asombrosos y muchas escenas rodadas dentro de la casa de la protagonista, un animal salvaje, un personaje mandado a hacer para el cine. La construcción de las secuencias, la puesta en escena, las interacciones entre los personajes, todo responde a una lógica excéntrica, pero con una intensidad paródica muy reflexiva y controlada. No hay un gramo de infamia en el enfoque de la cineasta hacia sus personajes: Stela, una mitómana cincuentona obsesionada con un viejo cantante (una especie de Johnny Hallyday rumano), hace todo lo posible por conocerlo, incluso follándose a una fotografía gigante suya. To put it simply, this is probably one of the greatest Romanian films of recent years, an amendment to anything Jude has ever done. With astonishing dialogue and many scenes shot inside the house of the protagonist, a wild animal, a character tailor-made for the cinema. The construction of the sequences, the mise-en-scène, the interactions between the characters—everything follows an eccentric logic, but with a very thoughtful and controlled parodic intensity. There isn’t a shred of malice in the filmmaker’s approach to her characters: Stela, a fifty-something mythomaniac obsessed with an aging singer (a sort of Romanian Johnny Hallyday), does everything in her power to meet him, including having sex with a gigantic photograph of him.
