Sinopsis

Una crítica musical de 24 años se muda a Montreal para escribir sobre el disco de Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill, pero sus planes cambian al involucrarse con dos músicos de una banda indie y asumir el impulso incierto de acompañarlos.

A 24-year-old music critic moves to Montreal intending to write a book about Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill,” but her plans take an unexpected turn when she becomes romantically involved with two members of an indie rock band and decides to become their publicist.

Creció en Burlington, Canadá, y vive en Toronto, donde estudió cine. Trabaja como periodista y crítica de cine para The Globe & Mail, The Village Voice y Maison neuve, entre otras publicaciones. Dirigió el corto We Forgot to Break Up (2017) y el largo I Like Movies (Bafici ‘23).

He grew up in Burlington, Ontario and lives in Toronto, where she studied cinema. She works as a journalist and critic for The Globe & Mail, The Village Voice and Maisonneuve, among other publications. She directed the short film We Forgot to Break Up (2017) and the feature I Like Movies (Bafici ‘23).

¿Qué pasa cuando un disco se convierte en obsesión? Entre las canciones y el deseo de reflexionar sobre ellas se impone el obstáculo del fetiche. Los discos que merecen un libro, los que rebosan de canciones que nos hablan, que son nuestras, ¿cómo despegarse, “tomar distancia”? Con un empeño que hace del pop (la cultura pop, su reinado de contraseñas y balbuceos espléndidos) un lenguaje o, más que eso, una forma de habitar el mundo, Chandler Levack construye una película que no contesta ninguna pregunta sino que simplemente las deja formuladas, como esquirlas, fragmentos de un interrogante mayor. What happens when an album becomes an obsession? Between the songs and the desire to reflect on them lies the obstacle of fetishization. Albums that deserve a book, those overflowing with songs that speak to us, that are ours—how can we detach ourselves, “take a step back”? With a determination that makes pop (pop culture, its reign of passwords and splendid babbling) a language or, more than that, a way of inhabiting the world, Chandler Levack builds a film that does not answer any questions but simply leaves them formulated, like splinters, fragments of a larger question. The protagonist moves through a longed-for world with an obstinacy that does not protect her from disappointment, while she lists in her mind the string of defeats that led her there. FG
