Sinopsis

En San Pablo la sommelier Isabel sueña con independizarse y abrir su propio bar. Cuando sus planes se frustran, debe decidir si detenerse o arriesgarse a cambiar el rumbo de su vida.

In São Paulo, sommelière Isabel dreams of escaping her boss and opening her own bar. When plans don’t go as expected, she must decide whether to halt everything or take bold steps to uncork her fate on her own terms.

Isabel es una comedia, evidentemente, con el asunto del vino como centro, y si el mundo fuera justo, lo que Entre copas hizo con el Pinot Noir debería suceder con esta película respecto del Perella, el vino confeccionado con esta uva de origen italiano rescatada del olvido por los impredecibles brasileños. Dicho esto, se trata de una película muy amable, con buenos secundarios, con dramaturgia tenue, pero no lánguida sino decidida y vital; con personajes apasionados y una protagonista magnífica y de buen ver. Todo está en su sitio en esta película, que recuerda las artesanías perfectas del cine americano para recrear los pequeños universos de los placeres mundanos, imbuidos de una sofisticación que no se declama, pero se transmite bien como clave para entendidos. Isabel is clearly a comedy, with wine as its central theme, and if the world were fair, what Sideways did for Pinot Noir should happen with this film in relation to Perella, the wine made from this Italian grape variety rescued from oblivion by the unpredictable Brazilians. That said, it is a very pleasant film, with good supporting players, a subdued dramaturgy that is not languid but determined and lively, passionate characters and a magnificent, attractive leading lady. Everything is in its right place in this film, which recalls the perfect craftsmanship of American cinema in recreating the small universes of worldly pleasures, imbued with a sophistication that is not obvious but is well conveyed as a key for connoisseurs.
