Sinopsis
A partir del rodaje de El Conde Drácula, de Jesús Franco, Portabella interviene la narrativa comercial: elimina el color y reemplaza la banda sonora por un paisaje de fricciones entre imagen y sonido, en colaboración con Carles Santos.
Through the filming of Jesús Franco's Count Dracula, Portabella intervenes in commercial narrative: he eliminates color and replaces the soundtrack with a landscape of friction between image and sound, in collaboration with Carles Santos.

(1929, Figueras, España). Con su productora Films 59 estuvo detrás de películas como El cochecito (1960), de Marco Ferreri, y Viridiana (1961), de Luis Buñuel. Entre sus películas como director se encuentran Vampir-Cuadecuc (1970), exhibida en el foco que le dedicó el Bafici ‘06, y Die Stille vor Bach (Bafici ‘08).

He directed several films, including Vampir-Cuadecuc (1970), screened in the focus on his work held by Bafici ’06 and The Silence Before Bach (2007; Bafici ’08).

Vampir Cuadecuc es posiblemente el film clave para entender la transición en el campo cinematográfico español desde el período de los “nuevos cines” (permitidos por la dictadura) hacia las prácticas clandestinas, ilegales o abiertamente de oposición antifranquista. Consiste en un registro del rodaje del film comercial El Conde Drácula, de Jesús Franco. Portabella ejerce dos tipos de violencia sobre la narrativa estándar: elimina totalmente el color y sustituye la banda sonora por un paisaje de colisiones imagen-sonido. Filmado provocadoramente en 16mm y con negativo de sonido, las tensiones entre el blanco y el negro favorecen el extraño “materialismo fantasmático” de este análisis desvelador de los mecanismos de construcción del ilusionismo del cine narrativo dominante. Vampir Cuadecuc is possibly the key film to understanding the transition in Spanish cinema from the period of “new cinemas” (allowed by the dictatorship) to clandestine, illegal, or openly anti-Franco practices. It consists of a record of the shooting of the commercial film Count Dracula, directed by Jesús Franco. Portabella exercises two types of violence on the standard narrative: he completely eliminates color and replaces the soundtrack with a landscape of image-sound collisions. Provocatively shot in 16mm and with sound negative, the tensions between black and white favor the strange “ghostly materialism” of this revealing analysis of the mechanisms of construction of the illusionism of mainstream narrative cinema. 2006 Catalogue
