En un lance un poco borgeano, el Nuevo Cine Cordobés sigue creando a sus precursores. Los pasos en la habitación, de Liliana Paolinelli, anuncia en 1992 una buena parte de lo que vendría: el cruce de los géneros, el retrato de los márgenes, el gusto por lo doméstico y una libertad narrativa infrecuente. Una chica aparece muerta de un disparo: el cura del barrio empieza una investigación propia, pero el comisario tiene otros planes. En la crudeza de los oficiales, en la pesquisa urbana que se derrama hacia la villa y en la persecución nocturna del final, Paolinelli, sin embargo, mira hacia atrás, al policial de los 80 ya languideciente, como si la prefiguración de un cine del futuro implicara (exigiera) preservar la tradición. In a somewhat Borgesian twist, Nuevo Cine Cordobés continues to create its precursors. Liliana Paolinelli's The Footsteps in the Room, released in 1992, foreshadows much of what was to come: the blending of genres, the portrayal of the margins, a taste for the domestic, and an uncommon narrative freedom. A girl is found dead from a gunshot wound: the neighborhood priest begins his own investigation, but the police commissioner has other plans. In the harshness of the officers, in the urban investigation that spills over into the slums, and in the nighttime chase at the end, Paolinelli nevertheless looks back to the already languishing police films of the 1980s, as if the prefiguration of a cinema of the future implied (demanded) the preservation of tradition.
