Using archival material, a filmmaker reconstructs the figure of her father, an absent merchant seaman, and wonders what place that bond occupies in her memory.

El cortometraje de Adaro Liloff, hija de un marino mercante, se despliega como un diario de navegación íntimo: una travesía por el vínculo con su papá. Fotografías, filmaciones y recuerdos familiares se entrelazan en una bitácora que intenta acortar la distancia que la profesión de aquel fue abriendo entre ambos. La voz en off de la realizadora acompaña esas imágenes y recompone la figura brumosa de un padre que hizo del movimiento su modo de habitar el mundo: siempre partiendo, siempre en tránsito, como en fuga. Filmar es entonces comprender. Porque lo que queda del mar no es solo ausencia, sino una persistencia amorosa que empuja la búsqueda. Al intentar descifrar esa lejana figura paterna, la película traza también el mapa interior de quien lo añora. Marina Locatelli

The short film by Adaro Liloff, daughter of a merchant seaman, unfolds like an intimate navigation log: a journey through her bond with her father. Photographs, films, and family memories are intertwined in a logbook that attempts to bridge the distance that her father's profession created between them. The director's voiceover accompanies these images and reconstructs the hazy figure of a father who made movement his way of inhabiting the world: always leaving, always in transit, as if on the run. To film is, therefore, to understand. Because what remains of the sea is not only absence, but a loving persistence that drives the search. In attempting to decipher this distant father figure, the film also traces the inner map of those who long for him. ML
