Sinopsis

Toki quiere volar. Soñó con estar sobre Buenos Aires y llevó sus propias alas a la ciudad del tango. Pero quizás no tomó suficientes clases de vuelo.

Toki wants to fly. She had a dream about being above Buenos Aires. She brought her own wings to the tango city. But perhaps not enough flying lessons.

Tokio Oohara, Gertjan Zuilhof

Oohara es una cineasta autodidacta. Dirigió varios cortos, entre ellos, Bird Woman (Bafici ‘23) y Lunch Woman (Bafici ‘24), junto a Gertjan Zuilhof. Zuilhof fue programador del Festival de Rotterdam durante 25 años. Falleció en 2025.

Ya sea en solitario o en su siempre estimulante trabajo conjunto, Tokio Oohara y el recordado Gertjan Zuilhof han persistido en un estilo propio, reconocible, como ejemplifica esta serie de mujeres (alada en este caso) que no saben de sujeciones a lógicas ordinarias. Y si a nivel epidérmico películas de este tipo promueven en primer término dejarse llevar, entrar en un universo siempre un poco enrarecido y desfasado, al mismo tiempo exigen del pensamiento algo más: reconocer que en ese apego a todo lo que es rabiosamente libre, irreverente, a todo lo que juega con la misma seriedad con la que juegan los niños, lo que vive es una resistencia posible contra la falta de generosidad, contra la mediocridad del cine y del mundo. Whether alone or in their always stimulating joint work, Tokyo Oohara and the much remembered Gertjan Zuilhof have persisted in their own recognizable style, as exemplified by this series of women (winged ones in this case) who know no restraint to ordinary logics. And if at an epidermic level, films of this type promote, first of all, to let oneself go, to enter a universe that is always a little rarefied and out of phase, at the same time they demand something more from thought: to recognize that in this attachment to all that is rabidly free, irreverent, to all that plays with the same seriousness with which children play, what lives is a possible resistance against the lack of generosity, against the mediocrity of cinema and the world.
