Sinopsis

Tras terminar una película independiente, una actriz intenta reconstruir en su clase de actuación tres entrevistas recientes, mientras descubre cuánto se desdibuja su propia experiencia al volver a narrarla.

After completing an indie film, an actress struggles to recall details from her three press interviews when asked to recreate them during her acting class, while discovering how much her own experience becomes blurred when she retells it.

Un regreso a las fórmulas más minimalistas de la carrera de Hong Sang-soo, The Day She Returns es una película estructuralista. O casi. Una actriz famosa regresa después de muchos años con una película independiente y se embarca en su promoción. Aquí la tenemos, concediendo tres entrevistas consecutivas, cada una resuelta con dos o tres planos. Por momentos no queda claro quién interroga a quién, y periodistas y actriz hablan más de sus vidas que de la propia película. A Hong le interesa sobre todo cuánto hay de representación en la mecánica de estos gestos, en las convenciones consensuadas del periodismo cinematográfico, las que la actriz pondrá en cuestión en los dos últimos capítulos. A return to the more minimalist styles of Hong Sang-soo’s career, The Day She Returns is a structuralist film. Or almost. A famous actress returns after many years with an independent film and embarks on its promotional tour. Here she is, giving three consecutive interviews, each captured in just two or three shots. At times it’s unclear who is questioning whom, and the journalists and actress talk more about their lives than about the film itself. Hong is primarily interested in how much of these gestures is performance, in the agreed-upon conventions of film journalism—conventions the actress will call into question in the final two chapters. Form and content have never gone so hand in hand in Hong’s work. JP
