Retrato del torero Andrés Roca Rey, que invita a reflexionar sobre la experiencia íntima de quien asume el riesgo de enfrentar al toro como un deber personal, en respeto a la tradición y como un desafío estético.

The portrait of an active bullfighting star, Andrés Roca Rey, which allows us to reflect on the intimate experience of the bullfighter who assumes the risk of facing the bull as a personal duty out of respect for tradition and as an aesthetic challenge.

Albert Serra

(1975, España). Es guionista, productor, editor y cineasta. Estudió en la Universidad de Barcelona. Dirigió varios largos; entre ellos, Honor de cavalleria (Bafici ‘06), El cant dels ocells (Bafici ‘09) y La mort de Luis XIV (Bafici ‘17).

Tardes de soledad es un documental sobre un torero, el peruano Roca Rey, pero ante todo se trata de un manifiesto sobre cómo filmar el mundo de los toros. En primer lugar a partir de su propio dispositivo de rodaje (las cámaras situadas en el graderío y sirviéndose del teleobjetivo) y montaje (estructurado a partir de las idas y venidas del torero y su cuadrilla en el coche). Pero también por cómo pone en primer plano dos elementos que articulan todo su desarrollo: ese miedo que se palpa en cada escena ante el riesgo de la muerte y la sangre que todo lo baña. Es así cómo Albert Serra privilegia lo abstracto (cuerpos, colores, movimientos) y la propia muerte del toro sobre eso que se ha llamado el “arte” de la tauromaquia. Jaime Pena

Afternoons of Solitude is a documentary about a bullfighter, the Peruvian Roca Rey, but above all it is a manifesto on how to film the world of bullfighting. First of all because of its own filming device (the cameras placed in the stands and using a telephoto lens) and editing (structured around the comings and goings of the bullfighter and his crew in a car). But also for the way he foregrounds two elements that articulate all its development: the fear that is palpable in every scene before the risk of death and the blood that bathes everything. This is how Albert Serra privileges the abstract (bodies, colors, movements) and the bull's death itself over what has been called the “art” of bullfighting. JP
