Talents Buenos Aires: Celebrating twenty years

El cine, como arte del presente, es testimonio de su tiempo, reflejando tanto la coyuntura social y política como su propia evolución. Nos guía en la comprensión de un mundo siempre cambiante, iluminando incluso lo que creíamos conocer y controlar. Como cada año, Talents Buenos Aires toma el título de una película para abrir el debate y enmarcar los ejes temáticos del encuentro. En esta 20ª edición, celebramos la madurez de un evento que sigue renovándose y consolidándose, promoviendo la colaboración entre cineastas emergentes y consagrados de Sudamérica. El título elegido es No esperes demasiado del fin del mundo, de Radu Jude, un film que dialoga con la precariedad y la resistencia en la práctica de la producción cinematográfica. En una región donde el fin del mundo nunca parece lejano, la película nos recuerda que el cine, con su humor y memoria, puede salvarnos. Durante dos décadas hemos recibido a profesionales destacados de diversas disciplinas que nos ayudaron a pensar en el cine como aquel lugar en el que confluyen tantas dimensiones. Por eso también esta veinteava edición será un homenaje a Manuel Antin, figura clave del cine nacional y fundador de la Universidad del Cine, espacio que ha sido cuna del Talents Buenos Aires. A modo de celebración, presentaremos además un programa especial de cortometrajes en honor a estos 20 años, celebrando la creatividad de directoras y directores que pasaron en ediciones anteriores del Talents, demostrando la enorme proyección de nuestra región. A partir de una convocatoria con más de 1200 postulantes, los 59 participantes, provenientes de 10 países, participarán de las diferentes actividades, talleres y capacitaciones del 20º Talents Buenos Aires que se llevará a cabo del 31 de marzo al 4 de abril en el marco del 26º Bafici.

Film, as the art of the present, is a testimony to its time, reflecting both the social and political situation and its own evolution. It guides us in our understanding of an ever-changing world, shedding light even on what we thought we knew and controlled. Like every year, Talents Buenos Aires takes the title of a film to open the debate and frame the central themes of the encounter. In this 20th edition, we celebrate the maturity of an event that continues to renew and consolidate itself, promoting collaboration between emerging and established filmmakers from South America. The title chosen is Radu Jude's Don't Expect Too Much from the End of the World, a film that engages with the precariousness and resistance in the practice of film production. In a region where the end of the world never seems far away, the film reminds us that cinema, with its humor and memory, can save us. For two decades we have welcomed outstanding professionals from various disciplines who have helped us to think of cinema as a place where so many dimensions converge. For this reason, too, this twentieth edition will be a tribute to Manuel Antin, a key figure in local cinema and founder of the Universidad del Cine, a space that has been the breeding ground for Talents Buenos Aires. As a celebration, we will also present a special program of short films in honor of these 20 years, highlighting the creativity of directors who participated in previous editions of Talents and demonstrating our region's enormous reach. From a call for entries with more than 1200 applicants, the 59 participants, coming from ten countries, will participate in the different activities, workshops and training sessions of the 20th Talents Buenos Aires, which will take place from March 31 to April 4 as part of the 26th Bafici.
