Boom Boom Kid and his debut album confirm what we always knew: his ability, as David Obarrio would say, to “hear the heartbeat of small, tiny things that confirm his tastes.” His Holy Grail in this marvel is Titi Ramírez's short film Drácula en Campana, a homemade Latin American cult classic, and BBK and his gang go out to listen to, capture, and respect stories that mark an adventure—that of creating, of being young, of knowing, of whimsy, of not letting the things that live in our blood die. BBK's creative hyperactivity becomes a film class here, one about how to fall in love with the past and present crosses of others, with creativity with and without bells, and with the ferocity of knowing that the only ugly thing is not having a reason to live.
