Dated 1989, the year the Wall fell, it adopts the neatness of commercial cinema to blow the plot to smithereens. A European landscape shattered by the return of history.

(1929, Figueras, España). Con su productora Films 59 estuvo detrás de películas como El cochecito (1960), de Marco Ferreri, y Viridiana (1961), de Luis Buñuel. Entre sus películas como director se encuentran Vampir-Cuadecuc (1970), exhibida en el foco que le dedicó el Bafici ‘06, y Die Stille vor Bach (Bafici ‘08).

He directed several films, including Vampir-Cuadecuc (1970), screened in the focus on his work held by Bafici ’06 and The Silence Before Bach (2007; Bafici ’08).

Si el look predominante en Nocturno 29 era el de la alta burguesía sesentista, en Pont de Varsòvia refulgen las imágenes de la nueva intelectualidad y de la amnésica clase política progresista europea. Pero bajo la superficie reluciente de eventos socioculturales espectaculares y de vida frívola en la Europa feliz se tensan las memorias de fracturas y cataclismos personales e históricos. Filmada con la misma pulcritud que el cine comercial coetáneo, Pont de Varsòvia hace estallar el argumento en los mil fragmentos de un paisaje europeo roto por el retorno de la Historia. No resulta extraño que Godard rubricase dos años después un film hermano, Alemania nueve cero, explícitamente heredero de Alemania, año cero de Rossellini en la posguerra europea de 1947. If the predominant look in Nocturno 29 was that of the ‘60s’ high bourgeoisie, the images of the new intelligentsia shine brightly in Pont de Varsòvia, as does the amnesiac progressive European political class. But under the veneer of spectacular socio-cultural events and frivolous lifestyles in happy Europe, the memories of personal and historical fractures amid cataclysms become strained. Shot with the same neatness as the commercial cinema of its time, Pont de Varsòvia has the plot blown into the thousand fragments of a European landscape torn by the return of History. It’s no wonder that two years later Godard produced a sister film, Germany Year 90 Nine Zero, an explicit heir to Rossellini's Germany, Year Zero in Europe's Postwar 1947. 2006 Catalogue
