Sinopsis
En un día de trabajo en una obra en construcción, Thomas, un gruista de 40 años, recibe el llamado de su esposa para que la pase a buscar por el hospital. Cuando llega, la encuentra llorando.
A routine working day at a construction site. Thomas, a 40-year-old crane operator, receives a call from his wife, who asks him to pick her up from the hospital. When he arrives, he finds her crying.

(1962). Es una joven veterana del cine alemán que estudió actuación en el Colegio de Música y Artes Dramáticas de Frankfurt-Main. Actuó entre 1984 y 1991 en teatros de Hamburgo y Berlín y estudió entre 1990 y 1995 en la Academia Alemana de Cine y Televisión. Entre sus films se destacan Marseille (2004) y Afternoon (Bafici ‘07).

Esta es una película con advertencia: es de las imperdibles, sí; pero además es de las que dejan huella, de las que terminan y sentimos que hemos experimentado el poder del cine. En My Wife Cries Angela Schanelec logra aunar su estilo inconfundible de pocos planos y encuadres límpidos con movimiento vital, movimiento cinematográfico y movimiento emocional. La construcción y derivación del llanto del título da pie, o echa a rodar —las bicicletas son clave en dos secuencias magistrales—, un relato acerca de amores, su fortaleza y su fragilidad. Y de cuerpos que bailan, que se desnudan en más de un sentido y que corren ante la lluvia, en uno de los tantos momentos perfectos de esta película de una solidez admirable como la de alguna catedral y a la vez cargada de temores y temblores. This is a film with a warning: it is not to be missed, yes, but it is also one of those films that leaves a mark, one of those that end and leave us feeling that we have experienced the power of cinema. In My Wife Cries, Angela Schanelec manages to combine her unmistakable style of few shots and limpid framing with vital movement, cinematic movement, and emotional movement. The construction and derivation of the crying in the title gives rise to, or sets in motion (bicycles are key in two masterful sequences) a story about love, its strength and its fragility. And of bodies that dance, that strip naked in more ways than one and run in the rain, in one of the many perfect moments in this film, which is as solid as a cathedral and yet full of fears and tremors.
