Esto ostenta la energía de esas películas infantiles de aventuras con niños como los de El río y la muerte, pero también Los Goonies; un chaval tosco y temerario y dos secuaces (el “niño viejo” y el “niño flaco” que también parecen salir del casting de Los olvidados). Hecha de detalles simples y significativos, de esos que solo pueden darse en aburridas tardes de verano y que acaban deviniendo en pequeños ritos de iniciación para los personajes. Los elementos fantásticos son sutiles y están estupendamente integrados, y el trabajo de cámara, el sonido e incluso las elecciones musicales tienen un encanto artesanal formidable. This has the energy of those children's adventure films with kids like those in The River and Death, but also The Goonies; a rough and reckless kid and two sidekicks (the “old boy” and the “skinny boy” who also seem to come out of The Young and the Dead's cast). It is made up of simple and significant details, the kind that can only happen on boring summer afternoons and that end up becoming small initiation rites for the characters. The fantastical elements are subtle and beautifully integrated, and the camerawork, sound and even the musical choices have a formidable artisanal charm. As a dessert, the film does not deprive itself of an homage to the river sequence in The Night of the Hunter. AA
