First of all, its coldness is almost terrifying; the abrupt arrests, the resigned faces of the workers, the trivial dialogue: nothing suggests that this is the story of a pivotal event. On the other hand, there is the strange beauty within the sense of hopelessness with which the working-class neighborhoods are filmed; the bleak atmosphere, the grayness of life, the dignity that comes from being on screen as if the camera had been slipped in through the window.
