Sinopsis

Antonio fue secretario del Partido Fascista Italiano, y aparece en siete negativos de vidrio abrazado a Benito Mussolini. Aunque calló su historia, algo siniestro marcó a sus descendientes. L’addio es un ensayo fílmico dirigido por una mujer que cría a dos hijos, para quienes ser varón ya no implique un destino ni mandato de superioridad.

Antonio was secretary of the Italian Fascist Party, and appears in seven glass negatives embracing Benito Mussolini. Although he kept his story quiet, something sinister marked his descendants. L'addio is a film essay directed by a woman raising two sons, for whom being male no longer implies a destiny or a mandate of superiority.

Reseña / Review

Después de tres películas con la crónica policial como materia prima de un cine áspero, visceral, por momentos desolador, Toia Bonino vuelve la mirada hacia su propia familia. Pero aunque desaparecen la crudeza y la violencia, no pasa lo mismo con la incomodidad, ahora por una fruta podrida en su árbol genealógico. También sigue ahí la pregunta por la fatalidad de ciertos destinos: ¿qué significa para una familia la herencia de un abuelo que pidió ser enterrado con una camisa negra? Con una multitud de ideas visuales, sonoras y de montaje, y permitiéndose incluso cierto humor, Bonino cumple con nobleza aquel mandato de G. B. Shaw: “Si uno no puede deshacerse del esqueleto familiar, quizá sí pueda ponerlo a bailar”. Agustín Masaedo

After three films with crime reporting as the raw material for a gritty, visceral and at times devastating cinema, Toia Bonino turns her attention to her own family. But although the harshness and violence disappear, the same cannot be said for the discomfort, now caused by a rotten fruit on her family tree. The question of the fatefulness of certain destinies is also still there: what does it mean for a family, what legacy does that grandfather who asked to be buried in a black shirt leave? With a multitude of visual, sound and editing ideas, and even allowing herself some humor, Bonino nobly fulfills that mandate of G. B. Shaw: “If you cannot get rid of the family skeleton, you may as well make it dance.” AM
