Sinopsis

Chile, 1972. Un grupo de intelectuales de izquierda toma un edificio para crear un Ministerio de Cultura, pero los obreros se oponen. Pactan convivir mientras esperan a Godoy, líder sindical, pero pronto las tensiones aumentan y la toma se disuelve, hasta que finalmente Godoy aparece con un discurso inesperado.

Chile, 1972. A group of leftist intellectuals take over a building to create a Ministry of Culture, but the workers oppose. They agree to coexist while waiting for Godoy, a union leader, but soon tensions rise and the takeover dissolves, until Godoy finally appears with an unexpected speech.

Sánchez dirigió películas como La promesa del retorno y Date una vuelta en el aire (ambas Bafici ‘21). González y Navarro, ya fallecidos, fueron sus compañeros en la Escuela de Artes de la Comunicación de la Universidad Católica de Chile.

Reseña / Review

Se trata esta vez de una de esas películas que rompen todo, que no hacen ninguna concesión, que solo parecen responder ante sí mismas, con toda la responsabilidad y la entereza que el caso requiere. Cristián Sánchez supo concebir una comedia sobre el presente de ese entonces pero también fue, en ese momento, sobre los años que vendrían, cuando la revolución y el gobierno popular iban a volver (ese sueño del eterno retorno) a la discusión pública, así en el cine como en la tierra. La capacidad anticipatoria del cine no es cosa nueva, pero tenemos que reconocer en Sánchez –en la línea de Raúl Ruiz, otro chileno ilustre– uno de sus oficiantes más conspicuos y diestros. This time it's one of those films that break everything, that make no concessions, that only seem to answer to themselves, with all the responsibility and integrity that the case requires. Cristián Sánchez was able to conceive a comedy about the present at that time, but it was also, at that moment, about the years to come, when the revolution and the popular government would return (that dream of the eternal return) to public discussion, on earth as it is in film. The anticipatory capacity of cinema is nothing new, but we have to recognize in Sánchez -in line with Raúl Ruiz, another illustrious Chilean- one of its most conspicuous and skillful officiants. Godoy can be expected as a failed god, but cinema does not wait. DO
