Sinopsis

Tullio y Giuliana son un matrimonio poco convencional. Los dos disfrutan de su libertad para mantener relaciones con otras personas, pero las cosas se complican cuando Giuliana descubre que está embarazada de otro hombre.

Tullio and Giuliana are an unconventional couple. They both enjoy their freedom to have relationships with other people, but things get complicated when Giuliana discovers that she is pregnant by another man.

Luchino Visconti

(1906-1976, Italia). Fue asistente de dirección de Jean Renoir antes de realizar su ópera prima, Obsesión (1943), a la que siguieron La tierra tiembla (1948), Bellísima (1951) y Muerte en Venecia (1971), entre otras. Dirigió numerosas óperas y obras teatrales, y fue conde de Lonate Pozzolo.

Aunque no fue muy bien recibida cuando apareció por primera vez, la última película de Luchino Visconti (1976) me parece posiblemente la mejor de sus últimas obras, aparte de El gatopardo: una autocrítica fulminante de la vanidad masculina y el autoengaño, adaptada de una novela de Gabriele D’Annunzio, centrada en un intelectual acomodado (Giancarlo Giannini) de principios de siglo que lucha por justificar su doble moral sexual y su filosofía libertaria con respecto a su esposa (Laura Antonelli) y su amante (Jennifer O’Neill). Opulento, dramáticamente discreto y profundamente sentido, se trata de un testimonio inquietante y una de las películas más eróticas de Visconti. Por cierto, la mano avejentada que se ve en pantalla durante los créditos iniciales es la de Visconti. Jonathan Rosenbaum

Though it wasn’t terribly well received when it first appeared, Luchino Visconti’s last film (1976) strikes me as arguably the greatest of his late works apart from The Leopard—a withering autocritique of masculine vanity and self-delusion, adapted from a novel by Gabriele D’Annunzio, focusing on a well-to-do intellectual (Giancarlo Giannini) at the turn of the century struggling to justify his sexual double standards and his libertarian philosophy regarding his wife (Laura Antonelli) and his mistress (Jennifer O’Neill). Opulently mounted, dramatically understated, and keenly felt, this is a haunting testament, as well as one of Visconti’s most erotic pictures. Incidentally, the elderly hand seen on-screen during the opening credits is Visconti’s own. JR
