(1929, Figueras, España). Con su productora Films 59 estuvo detrás de películas como El cochecito (1960), de Marco Ferreri, y Viridiana (1961), de Luis Buñuel. Entre sus películas como director se encuentran Vampir-Cuadecuc (1970), exhibida en el foco que le dedicó el Bafici ‘06, y Die Stille vor Bach (Bafici ‘08).
(1929, Figueras, Spain). His production company Films 59 was behind such films as Marco Ferreri’s The Little Coach (1960), and Luis Buñuel’s Viridiana (1961). He directed several films, including Vampir-Cuadecuc (1970), screened in the focus on his work held by Bafici ’06 and The Silence Before Bach (2007; Bafici ’08).

Pere Portabella experimenta nuevamente (como lo había hecho en la excelente Pont de Varsòvia) con imágenes y música para generar una sucesión de secuencias que permiten al espectador construir su propio sentido y unidad. El punto de partida es la música de Johann Sebastian Bach. Portabella logra materializarla, trazando su génesis y relacionando su incidencia en el pasado y su importancia en el presente. El director y guionista construye un relato libérrimo a partir de elementos en apariencia disímiles —un camionero que atraviesa las rutas europeas, un afinador de pianos ciego, la infancia del compositor alemán o una leyenda urbana acerca de un sirviente de Mendelssohn— para dar lugar a imágenes que definen un momento único en la historia del arte, del mismo modo que lo hizo la música de Bach. Pere Portabella once again experiments (as he had already done in the excellent Warsaw Bridge) with images and music to create a succession of sequences that let the audience make up their own sense and unit. The starting point is the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Portabella manages to materialize it, sketching its genesis and linking its impact in the past and its importance in the present. With total Ireedom, the writer/director makes up a story from elements that are apparently dissimilar -a truck driver riding through European highways, a blind piano tuner, the German composer’s childhood or an urban legend about one ol Mendelssohn's servants- to give way to images that define a unique moment in art history, in the same way Bach's music did. 2008 Catalogue
