Sinopsis

Para poder pagar un pequeño departamento en Brooklyn, una artista decide convivir con una serie de compañeros en apariencia inofensivos pero cada vez más perturbadores. Las experiencias extrañas la obligan a cuestionar sus propios límites y la mente humana.

In order to be able to afford a small Brooklyn apartment, a fierce artist decides to cohabitate with a series of apparently inoffensive but increasingly disturbing roommates.The experiences force her to question her own norms and the human psyche.

Empecemos con una hipérbole, más bien dos, que considero justas: Maria Petschnig filma Nueva York como no lo hizo nadie, mérito inmenso considerando que se trata de una de las ciudades más filmadas de los últimos 60 años. Y esa misma agilidad para encontrar lo único y hacerlo saltar acrobáticamente plano a plano la lleva a aterrizar entre cuatro paredes y orquestar una película inmobiliaria, encerrada sin ser claustrofóbica, con personajes extraordinarios, con una protagonista perfecta. Película estructural que arma sus fórmulas y las destruye cuando necesita seguir el pulso emocional de lo que cuenta, con acidez y candidez al mismo tiempo. Let’s begin with a hyperbole—or, rather, two—that I consider apt: Maria Petschnig films New York like no one else has before, an immense achievement considering it’s one of the most filmed cities of the past 60 years. And that same agility in finding the unique and making it leap acrobatically from shot to shot leads her to landing within four walls and orchestrating a film set in a single location—confined without being claustrophobic—with extraordinary characters and a perfect lead. A structural film that builds its formulas and then dismantles them when it needs to follow the emotional cadence of its story, with both biting wit and innocence.
