Sinopsis

Carroll vive obsesionado con la catástrofe y el fin de la moral. Todo cambia cuando pisa un clavo oxidado. Mientras su salud y su cordura se deterioran, deambula en busca de amor y verdad, hasta enfrentarse a una pregunta inquietante: ¿el mundo se acaba o se muere de tétanos?

Carroll’s worldview is dominated by the threat of catastrophe and the decline of morality. Everything changes when he steps on a rusty nail. As his health and sanity crumble, he wanders in search of love and the truth, until he is confronted with the ultimate existential question: are we really doomed, or is he just dying of tetanus?

Guionista, director y pintor residente en Los Ángeles. Su fascinación por lo extraño de nuestro mundo se refleja en toda su obra, especialmente en sus cortos Connective Tissue (2020) y Memory Box (2023), estrenados en el Beyond Fest. Su ópera prima como director, Bagworm (2025), ganó el Premio del Público Panorama en el Festival de Cine de Sitges.

He is a writer, director, and painter based in Los Angeles. His fascination with the strangeness of our world can be seen throughout his work, prominently in his short films Connective TIssue (2020) and Memory Box (2023), which premiered at Beyond Fest. His feature directorial debut, Bagworm (2025), premiered and won the Panorama Audience Award at Sitges Film Festival.

Los hermanos Oliver y Henry Bernsen crean una fábula que convierte los tics, caricaturas y vicios white trash de Estados Unidos en un espiral descendente, absurdo, poderoso y felizmente caprichoso, que cruza a David Cronenberg con Sean Baker y que decide construir incluso su propia Alicia/Travis Bickle (el actor Peter Falls, nada inocentemente llamado Carroll). Bagworm es de esas películas que saben exprimir la naranja mecánica que hace a la cultura de su país hasta su descarnada pulpa, y que entiende la vitamina pesadillesca que puede vivir ahí, casi como un hongo puede alojarse en un pulmón. Crean un infierno adictivo de vidas al límite, que sabe establecer su personalidad, su moral y hasta su ADN mutante minuto a minuto. Juan Manuel Domínguez

Brothers Oliver and Henry Bernsen create a fable that turns the mannerisms, caricatures, and white trash vices of the United States into an absurd, powerful, and happily whimsical downward spiral, crossing David Cronenberg with Sean Baker and even deciding to construct their own Alice/Travis Bickle (actor Peter Falls, not innocently named Carroll). Bagworm is one of those films that knows how to squeeze the clockwork orange that makes up the culture of its country down to its stark pulp, and understands the nightmarish vitamin that can live there, almost like a fungus can lodge in a lung. They create an addictive hell of lives on the edge, which knows how to establish its personality, its morals, and even its mutant DNA minute by minute. JMD
