Atín Aya fue un fotógrafo documentalista capaz de capturar el alma de las personas a través de su cámara. Aquí se recorre su vida y obra, explorando sus influencias y a sus contemporáneos, desde sus icónicas imágenes de los años 90 hasta sus fotografías inéditas.

Como un retrato sensible de un fotógrafo sensible, de portentosa mirada para captar el crepúsculo de una cultura y de un modo de vida, la película encuentra su punto en el editor y amigo Diego Carrasco, en el colega Jordi Socias; en su libro Sevillanos –de estatura mítica entre los conocedores–, en la galería de fotos que dedicó a la gente de las marismas gaditanas como registro de un “país de las últimas cosas”. Aya era un hombre inclaudicable, con el sello del testigo atónito en la mirada, y la película recorre su sinuosa biografía como si estuviera detrás de una vieja tonada en la que se concentran las penurias y las maravillas de un pueblo que parecía respirar, trabajar y sobrevivir a la sombra de los fastos de la España moderna y europea. Atín Aya was a documentary photographer capable of capturing the souls of people through his camera. This film retraces his life and work, exploring his influences and his contemporaries, from his iconic images of the 1990s to his unpublished photographs.

As a sensitive portrait of a sensitive photographer, with a portentous eye for capturing the twilight of a culture and a way of life, the film finds its focus in editor and friend Diego Carrasco, in colleague Jordi Socias; in his book Sevillanos -of mythical stature among connoisseurs-, in the photo gallery he dedicated to the people of the Cadiz marshlands as a record of a “country of last things.” Aya was an unwavering man, with the stamp of the astonished witness in his gaze, and the film covers his winding biography as if it were behind an old tune in which the hardships and wonders of a people that seemed to breathe, work and survive in the shadow of the splendors of modern and European Spain are concentrated.
