Sinopsis

A partir de fragmentos de films de Herzog, Kluge y otros, se traza un retrato de Alfred Edel, figura del Nuevo Cine Alemán. El montaje lo convierte en su propio interlocutor: lo vemos divagar sobre sexo, comida y muerte, siempre desmesurado y visionario.

Clips from films by Herzog, Kluge and others trace a portrait of Alfred Edel, a figure of New German Cinema. The editing turns him into his own interlocutor: we see him ramble on about sex, food, and death, always excessive and visionary.

(1984, Chemnitz, Alemania). Estudió matemáticas empresariales e ingeniería mecánica en la Universidad Tecnológica de Chemnitz, estudios que abandonó. Sus cortos y largos fueron exhibidos en el foco de la sección Panorama que le dedicó el Bafici en 2015.

1984, Chemnitz, Germany. He studied business mathematics and mechanical engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology, both of which he dropped out of. His shorts and features were shown in the focus of the Panorama section that Bafici dedicated to his work in 2015.

Jan Soldat, cineasta de los bordes, se centra en un actor centrífugo como Alfred Edel, que estuvo allí desde los inicios de Alexander Kluge. Ese allí, que incluyó al Nuevo Cine Alemán, derivó en muchas presencias en mucho cine y televisión desde mediados de los sesenta hasta los noventa del siglo XX. Actor de los que no pasaban desapercibidos, de una tradición gestual que no excluía la hipérbole y el absurdo, Edel hablaba pero a menudo vociferaba, con algo del rictus de Klaus Kinski cuando se ponía más intenso, nada menos. Edel, tantas veces actor secundario, se vuelve protagonista absoluto de este collage que lo tiene como tesis y antítesis de sí mismo, liderando el cartel de una fascinante supraficción cosida a cortes y también de su propia, inexorable y última realidad. Jan Soldat, a filmmaker on the fringes, focuses on a centrifugal performer like Alfred Edel, who was there from the very beginning of Alexander Kluge’s career. That “there”, which included the New German Cinema, led to numerous appearances in film and television from the mid-1960s through the 1990s. An actor who never went unnoticed, part of a gestural tradition that did not exclude hyperbole and absurdity, Edel spoke but often shouted, with something of Klaus Kinski’s grimace when he got more intense—no less. Edel, so often a supporting actor, becomes the absolute protagonist of this collage that presents him as both the thesis and antithesis of himself, headlining a fascinating metafiction stitched together from fragments, as well as his own inexorable and ultimate reality.
