Jonas Taul

(1986, Estonia). Artista audiovisual egresado de la Gerrit Rietveld Akademie de Ámsterdam, Países Bajos. Estudió animación en la Academia de Arte de Estonia, y publicó tres libros en los que se basan sus películas.

(1986, Estonia). An audiovisual artist who graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Akademie Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He studied animation at the Estonian Art Academy, and has published three books in which his films are based.

La melancólica vida de A Serious Thought se hace una pregunta en el cuerpo de un niño atravesando su primera crisis existencial: ¿por qué importaría nuestra vida en el gran esquema de las cosas? Emprendemos entonces un viaje donde viven nuestros monstruos y los de otros, donde van apareciendo pequeñas respuestas, nada definitivas, pero marcadas dentro y fuera de la pantalla por su belleza contundente, física como su stop-motion pulido. En esa premisa, en esas dudas, en esa tierrita del sueño, Jonas Taul crea un estilo simple, despojado, onírico para un viaje que es factible que recuerden por siempre. The melancholy life of A Serious Thought asks a question in the body of a child going through their first existential crisis: why would our life matter in the grand scheme of things? We then embark on a journey where our monsters and those of others live, where small answers appear, nothing definitive, but marked inside and outside the screen by their striking beauty, as physical as their polished stop-motion animation. On that premise, on those doubts, on that little piece of dreamland, Jonas Taul creates a simple, stripped-down, dreamlike style for a journey that you are likely to remember forever. And in that intimate, almost whispered gesture, the film transforms anguish into a delicate form of wonder. JMD
