Si hay que creerle a Lucía Seles —y sí, hay que creerle a una romántica que jura por ella misma—, su serie de videos sobre las confiterías Ritz no es, como odio desencadenada, inconclusa por definición sino que terminará con la quinta. Tras the urgency of death y the bewilderment of chile, entonces, in the sentimental lugo es la pieza central de esa pentalogía. Y central es central es central, podría decir Gertrude Stein, porque la tercera de las cinco “urgencies” condensa, como en un núcleo atómico, la versión más acabada y potente del mundo Seles. Con sus constelaciones, sus derivadas, sus pródigas invenciones capaces de hacer de Lugo y La Plata dos ciudades hermanadas por las confiterías, y del Diego de Gonzalo García-Pelayo un personaje magnífico, de temple formidable. If we are to believe Lucía Seles—and yes, we must believe a romantic who swears by herself—, her video series on the Ritz cafés is not, like unbridled hatred, incomplete by definition, but will conclude with the fifth installment. Following the urgency of death and the bewilderment of chile, then, in the sentimental lugo is central to that pentalogy. And central is central is central, Gertrude Stein might say, because the third of the five “urgencies” condenses, like an atomic nucleus, the most complete and powerful version of Seles’ world. With its constellations, its offshoots, its prodigious inventions capable of making Lugo and La Plata two cities twinned by their cafes, and of turning Gonzalo García-Pelayo’s Diego into a magnificent character of formidable mettle.
