Sinopsis

Una familia se muda a una casa en el campo. Entre siestas, viento y caballos, las estaciones pasan y cada uno se acerca a la naturaleza. A Iñaki, el menor, le cuesta más: deberá enfrentar sus miedos para dejar la niñez y empezar a entrar en el mundo adulto.

A family moves to a house in the countryside. Between naps, wind, and horses, the seasons pass and each member of the family grows closer to nature. Iñaki, the youngest, finds it more difficult: he must face his fears to leave childhood behind and enter the adult world.

El campo para referirse a una casa en el ámbito rural. Ese lugar —o ese anhelo— se dice distinto en algunos países de habla hispana: la belleza del título quizás pueda perderse en la traducción, incluso cercana. No hay tantas películas sobre el campo, o en el campo, así, como esta ópera prima de Elina Firpo. Sin explicaciones de clase, sin pretendida distancia, sin mirada entomológica, Firpo filma otra vez a su familia, protagonista de su corto Ni sí, ni no. Este campo no es un campo literario o cinéfilo; esos ángulos dejan espacio para algo más cercano y vital, más concentrado en un mundo propio, con la amplitud de miras que otorga ese concepto tal vez en extinción: los hermanos. Una película singular, anómala, que respira con una extraña —y hasta justa y elegante— fluidez. Javier Porta Fouz

The countryside, as in a rural home. That place—or that longing—is described differently in some Spanish-speaking countries: the beauty of the title might be lost in translation, even a close one. There aren’t many films about the countryside, or set in the countryside, quite like this debut feature by Elina Firpo. Without class distinctions, without feigned detachment, without an entomological gaze, Firpo once again films her family, the protagonists of her short film Ni sí, ni no. This countryside is not a literary or cinephile countryside; those perspectives make room for something closer and more vital, more focused on a world of its own, with the broad-mindedness afforded by that perhaps-endangered concept: siblings. A singular, anomalous film that breathes with a strange—and even fitting and elegant—fluidity. JPF
