Viajar como lo hacían los pioneros, ver de primera mano los vastos paisajes agrestes aún conservados, quizá encontrarse con antiguos pobladores. La familia Wright se lanza por el río Fraser en un bote de goma en la que hoy sería considerada una aventura inútil e insensata. El corto sigue a la familia, un matrimonio con dos hijos chicos, con una serenidad cautivante, como si nada malo pudiera pasar. Hay allí un sentido de la libertad inseparable de la empresa, pero también la sensación de que el mundo ofrecía en esos años la posibilidad de encontrar maravillas fuera de la sociedad industrial, como si los fantasmas de un escenario primitivo obraran como guías. Entre el ingenuo entusiasmo de la familia y su confianza en las propias fuerzas se vislumbra una pudorosa elegía por mundos perdidos. David Obarrio

Traveling as the pioneers did, seeing firsthand the vast, unspoiled wilderness that remains today, perhaps even encountering the original inhabitants. The Wright family sets off down the Fraser River in a rubber boat on what today would be considered a futile and reckless adventure. The short film follows the family—a married couple with two young children—with a captivating serenity, as if nothing bad could possibly happen. There is a sense of freedom inseparable from the undertaking, but also the feeling that the world in those years offered the possibility of discovering wonders beyond industrial society, as if the ghosts of a primitive world were serving as guides. Amid the family’s naive enthusiasm and their confidence in their own strength emerges a modest elegy for lost worlds. DO
