Ella es un personajón, Jamaica es inabarcable, mucho más allá de lo que prescriben sus signos públicos más notorios, sus músicos y músicas, el ska, el rocksteady, el reggae, la dulce hierba tan aromática y relajante. Diane Jobson es entonces un enorme personaje, una señora impasible, abogada de causas justas, socia de tranquilos placeres en su casa con vista al mar. La película la muestra en sus quehaceres, aguerrida e imparable, pero también con su amiga Sally, con la que se dedican a una simple, buena vida de señoras en envidiable paz con sus conciencias y con sus años. En la larga secuencia en la que visitan unas cuevas prodigiosas queda claro que esta película vivaz, de una generosa serenidad, es también, quizá sobre todo, la historia de una gran amistad. She is a larger-than-life character, Jamaica is unfathomable, far beyond what its most notorious public symbols, its musicians, ska, rocksteady, reggae, and sweet, aromatic, relaxing weed would suggest. Diane Jobson is, then, an enormous character, an impassive lady, an advocate for just causes, a partner in quiet pleasures in her house overlooking the sea. The film shows her going about her business, fierce and unstoppable, but also with her friend Sally, with whom she enjoys a simple, good life as ladies at peace with their consciences and their years. In the long sequence in which they visit some prodigious caves, it becomes clear that this lively film, with its generous serenity, is also, perhaps above all, the story of a great friendship. RM
