Sinopsis

Filmado en Pattani, sur de Tailandia bajo ley marcial, el documental sigue a una familia inesperada: un docente de arte gay y radical, un musulmán y una madre soltera inestable. En una sociedad dividida, una nueva generación cuestiona la fe, la moral y el sentido de pertenencia.

Filmed in Pattani, Thailand’s southern border region under decades of martial law, this documentary follows an unlikely family (a radical gay art lecturer, a Muslim man, and a volatile single mother). In a divided society, a new generation questions faith, morality, and belonging.

Thunska Pansittivorakul

(1973, Bangkok, Tailandia). Se graduó como profesor de arte en la Universidad Chulalongkorn, es docente en la Universidad de Bangkok y escribe en revistas tailandesas. Dirigió varios cortos y los largos Reincarnate (Bafici ‘10) y The Terrorists (Bafici ‘11).

He aquí una pequeña maravilla, engañosamente simple y directa. Un retrato sin condescendencia de la temprana juventud tailandesa LGBT de origen musulmán en un clima de hostigamiento y Ley Marcial. Here is a small gem, deceptively simple and direct. An unflinching portrait of young Thai LGBT people of Muslim descent amid a climate of harassment and martial law. In the style of a documentary film, the residents of Pattani reveal a universe of doubts, desires, and transgressions in their daily lives. Caught between the region’s reputation as a haven for terrorism and the proscription imposed by their inherited faith, the characters dream of their own community. Life is hard, but the narrative is never maudlin, and the way the conversations between the protagonists or their first-person accounts are handled reveals the presence of a true filmmaker. Far from global ethnographic cinema, the film stands as a witness to a sensibility yet to be fully revealed. DO
