Sinopsis

Alberto, mi abuelo, está waiting for la parca. Sus amigos murieron y casi no recibe visitas. Tras la muerte inesperada de su hijo Javier, mi padre, la familia le oculta la noticia, hasta que un día yo decido decírsela. El proyecto se basa en registros íntimos de los tres.

Alberto, my grandfather, espera the grim reaper. His friends have died and he hardly ever has visitors. After the unexpected death of his son Javier, my father, the family hides the news from him, until one day I decide to tell him. The project is based on intimate records of the three of them.

Ana García Blaya

(1979, Buenos Aires, Argentina). Estudió Comunicación en la UBA y trabajó en publicidad como asistente de dirección y montajista. En 2019 su ópera prima Las buenas intenciones fue seleccionada en Toronto y San Sebastián. La uruguaya, adaptación de la novela de Pedro Mairal, se estrenó en 2022 en el Festival de Cine de Mar del Plata, donde ganó el premio a Mejor Dirección.

In 2019, her debut film The Good Intentions was selected at Toronto and San Sebastián. The Uruguayan, an adaptation of Pedro Mairal's novel, premiered in 2022 at the Mar del Plata Film Festival, where it won the Best Director award.

En el rubro de “películas de familia” aparecen a veces piezas como esta, acaso de las más precisas y lúcidas en lo que respecta a ese desliz institucional, ese gran misterio que resiste. En la voz aniñada de la protagonista se resume la distancia de lo que está tan cerca que se nos escapa sin remedio. Y aquí están todos muy cerca unos de otros; las reuniones familiares son como ejércitos hambrientos que devoran provisiones. Pero es entre el padre y el abuelo de la directora que aflora magistralmente ese equívoco que es la relación padre-hijo, con el “gran silencio” de la muerte de fondo. Comedia de entrecasa, a veces película de fantasmas en la que se buscan señales en el apartado de avisos fúnebres de La Nación, la directora encuentra una verdad inefable en el centro del dolor. Sometimes, films like this appear in the “family film” category. It is perhaps one of the most accurate and lucid in terms of that institutional slip, that great mystery that persists. The childlike voice of the protagonist sums up the distance of what is so close that it inevitably escapes us. And here they are all very close to each other; family gatherings are like hungry armies devouring provisions. But it is between the director's father and grandfather that the misunderstanding father-son relationships tend to be emerges masterfully, with the “great silence” of death in the background. An everyday comedy, sometimes a ghost story in which signs are sought in the obituary section of La Nación, the director finds an ineffable truth at the center of pain. DO
