Sinopsis

Fernando, Ailén y Nina, director, productora y actriz, se unen para filmar su ópera prima. Dispuestos a todo, roban locaciones, contratan a un equipo inexperto y hasta se traicionan. En el intento, arriesgan sus pasiones, secretos y vínculos. ¿Cuánto se está dispuesto a sacrificar por una película?

Fernando, Ailén and Nina, director, producer, and actress, are drawn together to make their first movie. Willing to do anything, they steal location, hire an amateur crew and even betray each other. Meanwhile, they put their passions, secrets and bonds at risk. How much are you willing to give up for a movie?

Garateguy (1973), Giralt (1977) y Toker (1975) codirigieron las tres primeras entregas de upa! La saga, estrenadas en Bafici, que vuelven a proyectarse en esta edición del festival. La cuarta entrega, upa! una primavera en Atenas, es la película de apertura de este Bafici.

Allá por 2007, upa! una película argentina nacía lobizona. Bajo la luna llena del Nuevo Cine Argentino –ah, crueles líneas de tiempo y nomenclaturas urgentes–, upa! sacaba los colmillos para comerse a sí misma mucho más hambrienta que sus pares: Giralt, Toker y Garateguy exageraban la humanidad y cotidianidad del NCA y así ponían en tensión (una digna del bigote de John Waters) sistemas, egos, caos, espejos y colores. Dejaban pelos ahí donde la seriedad de sus pares se obsesionaba con una pulcritud casi de fórmula. Poco sabían los tres chiflados que estaban creando una poción mágica perfecta: cuando el cine argentino la necesite, allí estará upa!, la heroína que no nos merecemos pero que –gracias a Dios– tenemos. Back in 2007, upa! an Argentine Film was born wolfish. Under the full moon of the New Argentine Cinema -ah, cruel timelines and urgent nomenclatures-, upa! showed its fangs and ate itself more hungrily than its peers: Giralt, Toker and Garateguy exaggerated the humanity and everydayness of the NAC and thus put in tension (one worthy of John Waters' mustache) systems, egos, chaos, mirrors and colors. They left hairs there where the seriousness of their peers obsessed over an almost formulaic neatness. Little did the three stooges know that they were creating a perfect magic potion: should Argentine cinema need it, we'll always have upa!, the heroine we do not deserve but that -thank God- we have.
