Sinopsis

De Toronto a Oslo, seguimos el viaje de Audrey Benac, una joven académica en busca de Kathleen Parlow, reconocida violinista canadiense del siglo XX. Al mismo tiempo, Audrey intenta alejarse de otra mujer: su madre, una música frustrada de la que quiere escapar.

From Toronto to Oslo, we follow the journey of Audrey Benac, a young academic in search of Kathleen Parlow, an important Canadian violinist from the 20th-century. Simultaneously, Audree tries to distance herself from another woman—her mother, a failed musician she wants to run away from.

Reseña / Review

Con su personaje principal tomado por su obsesión por la figura de la violinista Kathleen Parlow y su partitura perdida, pero también por su propia madre y por el pasado en general, Bogdanowicz tiene su película sobre fantasmas. La trama es enorme y refinada, con tema culto, de esos en los que la directora pone el acento con un denuedo encomiable. Con un trabajo muy agudo sobre el sonido, tiene algunos momentos casi terroríficos –como el plano de la protagonista soltando una carcajada, junto antes del corte salvador–, y es por momentos un recorrido impenitente por ciudades europeas que parecen la misma, como una serie de paisajes anónimos y poco hospitalarios, básicamente porque Audrey vive casi literalmente en otro mundo y todo el resto le es indiferente. With her main character haunted by an obsession with the figure of violinist Kathleen Parlow and her lost score, but also by her own mother and the past in general, Bogdanowicz has her own film about ghosts. The plot is huge and refined, with a highbrow subject matter, one of those on which the director emphasizes with commendable boldness. With a very sharp work on sound, it has some almost terrifying moments -like the shot of the protagonist letting out a laugh, just before the life-saving cut-, and it is at times an unrepentant journey through European cities that seem the same, like a series of anonymous and unwelcoming landscapes, basically because Audrey lives almost literally in another world and all the rest is indifferent to her.
